| What is fatigue?
FATIGUE
Fatigue can be caused by several different factors. Typically
patients at our Los Alamitos office (McMullin & Stark
Chiropractic) at the
beginning of their care often remark, “I feel tired all the time,” and
we find that it usually has to do with their spinal alignment or their
diet.
In cases of fatigue due to the spine we must remember the brain and
nervous system control the rest of the body. If the spine is out of
alignment (subluxated), the muscles have to work that much harder to
maintain posture. Dr. Roger Sperry won the Nobel Prize for his work in
brain research. In his research he found that 90% of the energy used by
the brain is devoted to relating the body to gravity….POSTURE! When the
spine is out of alignment, muscles are tight and the nerves are pinched,
there is a tremendous power drain that pulls energy to support a bad
spine thus making a person feel overly tired or fatigued. In these cases
we evaluate the patient’s posture and spinal alignment to determine if
Chiropractic care is appropriate for them. With proper spinal
adjustments and exercises aimed at strengthening the posture most
patients report a significant increase in energy.
In cases of fatigue due to diet, we find that energy level can be due to
nutritional deficiency. In our Los Alamitos office we evaluate for
nutritional deficiency and if found, make necessary recommendations. If
the body does not have the correct building blocks to rebuild, repair
and make new cells, the patient may have the feeling of “running on
empty” and feel tired even upon waking from a good night’s sleep. In our
office we use whole food concentrates rather than synthetic vitamins and
re-evaluate to monitor progress. When diet is the cause of fatigue,
patients usually respond to this approach.
