How does Healing take place?
Many of the aspects of our country’s healthcare have forgotten that the body has an amazing Innate or inborn healing capacity. If you cut or scrape your arm and closely watch the process, you will see it stop the bleeding, form a scab, sluff off the scab to reveal scar tissue and eventually make new skin. The intelligence that made us from two single cells into a whole human being is the same intelligence that directs your body in healing.
ItunesThe business of true health care is not about treating symptoms. Many people confuse treating symptoms with promoting healing. To take a pain killer to simply remove pain has little to do with finding the cause of the pain or the cause of the dysfunction in the body. The dis-ease or dys-function in the body is what causes tissue damage which when left to accumulate, causes symptoms. Think of the process of heart dis-ease. It begins with accumulation of plaque in the coronary arteries which decrease the nutrients that go to the heart muscle which over time can cause heart symptoms (of angina or chest pain) or worse a heart attack. It doesn’t happen with the fatty meal eaten last night, but a process of dis-ease that eventually led to a symptom.
Healing is not about getting rid of a symptom but removing the interference to the body’s natural healing mechanism. The health practitioners thought of as Healers are those who don’t put foreign things into the body or take valuable parts out of it, but help bring the body into balance and remove the obstructions to normal function and normal healing that comes from the inside out.
As Chiropractors, we are doing our best work when we simply remove the interference between the brain and body and allow the innate intelligence or innate wisdom of the body to do the rest.
